The sunken forest in Kazakhstan

Posted on July 1, 2019December 19, 2023

Kazakhstan is one of the few countries that talk less about tourism attractions. In this article, we are introducing a strange natural attraction, a forest that sank under a lake.

The sunken forest, 400 meters long, located in a lake called the Kaindy Lake, was formed in 1911 as a result of an earthquake. An earthquake caused a landslide and created a natural dam. After that, the valley was filled with rain water and the forest was submerged over time. Usually the trees are exposed to rotten water due to excessive exposure, but this does not apply to this underwater forest. Since the water is very cold, the trees in it are still not rotten and remain well-kept.

In addition to the sunken forest, the lake is also famous for its clear blue color. This color is created by limestone sedimentation in the region. Cindy’s ice freezes in the winter and becomes a popular destination for winter enthusiasts.
